After fresh install of win 2000, all drivers obtained through Compaq would not activate VGA controller. This driver was obtained through VIA from Savage. To obtain chipset model, I ran S3ID.EXE from Savage link. (this must be ran in dos, win98 setup disk worked well for me, also you can use F8 after post and boot to command prompt in win 2000.) Unzip driver to hard drive. Go to control panel,System,Hardware,Device Manager. Open vga controller (video display) and update driver. Choose specify location and browse to folder where driver is located and install. This driver file has the utilities included and you must go back to folder and run setup to install utils.
